June 22, 2006 – A journey to Delhi, India in Asia

A Bit Of Culture Shock

Okay, I must admit that I'm glad to have gone the driver route. Especially since this is the hottest time of the year and also the lowest season for tourism. The heat can dehydrate one really fast. Carrying backpacks around in this heat, and going from bus station to looking for accommodations would've been hell.

Walking around Delhi yesterday, Rick and I were surrounded by a bunch of touts who we couldn't shake. They followed us everywhere we went, trying to convince us to buy their goods or services.

On the way to the small desert town of Mandawa, whenever we stopped for a few minutes in the towns in between, beggar children would come up to the car, pound on the windows and plead for money. It was rather distressing to see this.

Talk about culture shock, this is one country where we've witnessed that the disparity between the rich and the poor is not hidden in daily life.
