May 6, 2006 – A journey to Ho Chih Minh City, Vietnam in Asia

Ho Chih Minh City (aka Saigon)

Ho Chih Minh City is quite a contrast to Hanoi. Being a much bigger city with a much bigger population (6 million registered, but really around 11-12 million – which is almost the population size of Cambodia!), HCMC (also known as Saigon) looks like any other westernized city in Asia. In comparison to Hanoi, you don't see that many Communist red with yellow star flags, women wearing conical hats, and many political billboards here. Instead, you actually can watch BBC and hear western music being played from gringo joints.

a visit to the War Remnant Museum is quite an eye-opener

crossing the street without any crosswalk signs can be a bit of an ordeal, but the market goods and food at Ben Thanh Market can be worth it
